Deep processing of black soldier flies
The deep processing of black soldier flies refers to the process of transforming their larvae, pre-pupae or adults into high-value-added products, and it is a key link in the industrial chain to enhance economic benefits.
There are two directions in deep processing:
1. Insect protein powder (core product)
Raw materials: Larvae (optimal stage: mature larvae or pre-pupae) are processed through boiling water, sterilization, drying, and screening into protein powder.
Alternative objects: fish meal, soybean meal, meat and bone meal
Application fields: Aquatic feed (fish, shrimp), livestock and poultry feed (chicken, pig), pet food (dog and cat food, exotic pet feed)
2. Insect oil
Oil characteristics: Lauric acid content > 40% (similar to coconut oil), rich in medium-chain fatty acids (MCTs), easy to digest and provide energy, weak antioxidant capacity, vitamin E needs to be added for preservation
Application fields: biodiesel raw materials, animal feed energy supplements, cosmetic base oils (requiring refining, decolorization and deodorization)
3. Organic fertilizer made from insect sand (residues from aquaculture)
Processing method: Direct drying → granular fertilizer, adding microbial agents for fermentation → bio-organic fertilizer
Application fields: Facility agriculture (greenhouse vegetables, flowers), organic tea gardens/orchards, soil remediation agents
Deep processing field:
1. Proteolytic products (peptide powder) 2. Chitin and chitosan 3. Extraction of insect antimicrobial peptides
